ACT: Olympic stars gold medals stolen police
CANBERRA, April 2 AAP - Gold medals belonging to swimming legends Alex Popov and Michael
Klim were stolen from the home of Popov's coach at the weekend, ACT police said today.
Burglars stole Russian star Popov's Atlanta Olympic gold medal, valued at $40,000,
and Klim's Commonwealth gold medal, valued at $20,000, a police spokesman said.
The thieves also took a bronze medal from the 1988 Seoul Olympics, a number of wrist
watches and electrical equipment including a television and a laptop computer.
The raid on the Bruce home of Gennadi Touretski occurred between 1pm and 3.10pm yesterday
when burglars forced open the laundry door and removed a safe containing the medals and
watches from the main bedroom.
Police urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
